Foamflower (Tiarella)
Foamflower (Tiarella) is a beautiful woodland plant in the Saxifrage family. This is a clump-forming perennial with evergreen leaves, similar to Heuchera. with attractive markings. In autumn, the leaves develop reddish tints. The spring flowers are like fuzzy flowerspikes and last 4-6 weeks. The most common flower color is white, but recent hybrids have pink flowers (like ‘Pink Skyrocket’, currently in our inventory). Foamflower plants are compact, about 1′ tall, and may spread slightly. They bring an enchanting ambience to a woodland garden.
Growing Conditions – Foamflower thrives in shade to part shade. They are found in woodsy, forested areas throughout the United States and therefore prefer growing conditions that are slightly moist and rich in organic matter.
Garden Uses – Great for shady areas of the garden and woodland-type settings. Since they are low-growing, they make good edging plants and groundcovers. They also make good rock garden plants.
