Vibrant Color All Season Long
Take a stroll through our greenhouse in the spring and summer and you will find exciting drifts of color on the tables, in pots on the floor and in baskets hanging from the ceiling. These are annuals! They are available individually in small pots and planted in abundance in containers, urns and hanging baskets.
Annuals are plants that typically live for one season – spring through the first fall frost. They bloom continuously throughout the season, providing exciting, vibrant colors to your beds, borders and containers.
Summer annuals are generally not frost resistant, so keep them protected during cold nights early in the season. Make sure your annuals get enough water by keeping the soil consistently moist 2 – 3 inches down. Avoid soggy soil. If your annuals are in pots, check the soil for moisture every day as containers tend to dry out quickly, especially on hot days. Pinch off spent blooms to encourage new flowers all summer. Fertilize throughout the summer to ensure continuous blooming.
Standard Annuals
Standard annuals are great for adding summer long color to containers, beds and borders. Most of them are sun lovers, which means they need at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. Impatiens prefer shade, 2-4 hours of sun, preferably morning sun. While most annuals are summer plants, there are a few fall and winter annuals: pansies, violets and primroses.

Premium Annuals for Sun
There are many varieties of premium annuals. These beauties are perfect for planting your own containers and hanging baskets. They need at least 6 hours of sunlight per day.
In the lists they are divided up under “Thriller”, “Spiller” and “Filler”. This is a helpful formula for designing containers. The Thriller is the focal point, the striking, vertical element of the design. Fillers are the mid-sized plants, usually mounding or rounded. Plant these around the Thriller. Spillers are trailing plants that spill over the sides of the container.

These shade lovers are perfect for designing your own containers. They provide a lush, tropical feel. Not only do they have brightly colored blooms, but their foliage is outstanding as well. They need only morning sun, dappled light or 2-4 hours of mild sunlight per day.
