Protect From Cold

Nighttime temperatures are still chilly! Protect summer annuals, hanging baskets and warm weather vegetables until overnight lows are 55 degrees F or higher.

If you don’t have a greenhouse, gently cover plants with sheets, blankets, tarps or upside-down containers. Use a support to keep fabric off plants. Leave plants uncovered during the day but cover them before sundown to trap warm air inside overnight. You can also use Harvest Guard, a lightweight insulation that lets sun, air and water through. It can be kept over plants night and day until warm temperatures arrive.

Warm season vegetables include: beans, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, melon, peppers, pumpkin, squash, tomatoes and tomatillos.
