Beesia

Off

Beesia deltaphylla (also known as “False Bugbane”) does not attract much attention on the shade perennials table but this is a treasure that should be in any shade garden. Mounds of glossy, heart-shaped leaves create a lovely, mannered groundcover. In early spring (right now- mid-April – in my garden), delicate little white flowers appear on 1′ stems.

Beesia is a native of China and was introduced to American gardens by Dan Hinkley. This evergreen perennial thrives in full shade or dappled shade areas in moist soils and makes a good companion to hostas, ferns and other shade-loving plants. It is a wonderful addition to the woodland garden and also does well in containers. It is a very hardy (to zone 5b) and deer resistant.
