Off

Looking for something unique and tropical for your garden? Take a look at the Hardy Schefflera ‘Winged Phoenix’.

What – a hardy schefflera? Yes, there is such a thing! It has proven to be reliably cold hardy in Pacific Northwest gardens. This plant is rated for zone 7 which is tolerant of temperatures down to 10 degrees.

This hardy schefflera is characterized by evergreen silver-green leaves on light green stalks. Green flowers appear in late summer which turn into purple berries. It can grow to 15 feet but can be shortened by pruning and to control branching. The plant can develop into a small tree with a rounded canopy. It can also be used as an indoor plant.

Place the plant in bright or dappled shade for best performance. If growing indoors, position it so that is gets bright light. Water once per week and do not over water. The plant does well in moist but not wet soils. Good drainage is essential to avoid root rot.

Whether you grow it in a pot or in the ground, this is a dramatic plant that brings an elegant architecture to the garden.
